Angel from Montgomery

So I kind of as an aside posted this song, Bonnie Raitt and Jackson Browne’s cover of John Prine’s Angel from Montgomery earlier in my obligatory daily John Edwards post but I had never heard it before and really didn’t pay attention to it too much then. But I listened to it again and I wanted to give it a more prominent place because it is such a tremendous song full of just longing and heartbreak of an everyday life and one that I didn't want to just slip away in the ether of this site. And Bonnie’s voice is just shattering. It's really beautiful
I am truly a big fan of real soulful country music.

I am an old woman
named after my mother
an old man is another
child who's grown old

If dreams were thunder
lightning was desire
this old house it would've burned down
a long time ago

Make me an angel
that flies from Montgomery
Make me a poster
of an old rodeo
Just give me one thing
that I can hold on to
to believe in this livin'
is just a hard way to go

When i was a young girl
I had me a cowboy
it wasn't much to look at
it was a free ramblin' man
There was a long time
no matter how I tried
the years they just rolled by
like a broken down dance

Make me an angel
that flies from Montgomery
Make me a poster
of an old rodeo
Just give me one thing
that I can hold on to
to believe in this livin'
is just a hard way to go

There's flies in the kitchen
I can hear them there buzzin'
And I ain't done nothing since I woke up today
But how the hell can a person
go on to work in the morning
to come home in the evening
and have nothing to say

Make me an angel
that flies from Montgomery
Make me a poster
of an old rodeo
Just give me one thing
that I can hold on to
to believe in this livin'
is just a hard way to go
