Coonie Tunes

(and this week I learned, through the official and inoffensive Urban Dictionary that Coonie doesn't mean what I thought it must mean, but since the "actual" meaning is offensive as well I guess we can stick with it)
This is a cartoon starring everyone's favorite cat and mouse Tom and Jerry. Actually scratch that; this Tom and Jerry, according to wikipedia, were fictional characters that starred in a series of early sound cartoons produced by the Van Beuren Studios. The series lasted from 1931 to 1933. When Official Films purchased the Van Beuren library in the 1950s, the characters were renamed Dick and Larry to avoid confusion with the famous cat and mouse team of the same name. Today, animation historians refer to the characters as Van Beuren's Tom and Jerry."

Anyway in this cartoon the pair are flying to Africa, I guess to become famous (i don't know) but one of them realizes that they on won't fit in as they are. SO out comes the black face paint and somehow magically that white circle around the mouth appears as well. I could have been alright if they just painted their faces (see Soul Man and Ted Danson) but then to totally change their voices and make them speak in that dialect and make them so much slower and dumber, well that was something.

It's kind of like Amos and Andy, if Amos and Andy were able to take off their minstrel face paint (though I did enjoy the maybe reference to Elijah and the dry bones) but you can see it all yourself so here is Van Beuren's Tom and Jerry in 1932's Plane Dumb
